The National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) is the first professional hockey league for women. Ahem, let me repeat that — the NWHL is the FIRST EVER HOCKEY LEAGUE FOR WOMEN.
Sorry, I thought I could make it through that without yelling, but I was wrong. The news was announced last March, but the first official face-off took place October 11. So, women’s pro hockey is FINALLY HERE!
Ugh, there I go again. My apologies.
The four-team league — Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, and New York Riveters — will play a 20-game regular season that concludes in late February. Check out the websites of the teams (they’re linked!) and make sure you support these hardcore gals so the league expands.
In the meantime, here are some NWHL stats for you …
*The first goal in league history … *was scored by Jessica Koizumi of Connecticut.
The first Canadian to score a goal … Kelly Babstock.
The first multi-goal game … Hilary Knight (she score twice!)
What’s more, the women’s hockey jerseys are waaaaaay better than the men’s. Seriously, we’re not kidding … The Worst Hockey Jerseys From The 2015 NHL Season.
