Danica Patrick is, simply put, a boss. Not only is she the 34-year-old the first female to win an IndyCar Series Race (the 2008 Indy Japan 300), in 2013 she became the first female NASCAR driver to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole. Her eighth place finish in the 2013 Daytona 500 was, incidentally, the highest finish ever for a woman.
In addition to all of the racing, Patrick has dipped her toes all over the media for endorsements and commercials, and has become something of a fitness guru over the years.
The seven-year NASCAR vet has a well-documented passion for yoga, but there seems to be a new fitness trend that has caught Patrick’s eye: the trendy and oft-celebrated CrossFit. While quickly gaining popularity as a competitive sport, Patrick seems to view it more as a physical exercise philosophy. Patrick’s home is complete with a yoga room with some fantastic chi. She also converted an old barn into a CrossFit gym with the help fellow NASCAR driver and boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr. The couple is close friends with Rich Froning, he of four-time CrossFit Games-winning fame. Froning helps out with some of Patrick’s and Stenhouse’s programming, but as training veterans, they also frequently make up their own CrossFit programs.
And Patrick’s own CrossFit routine is far from casual. You can check it out right here on Patrick’s Instagram feed. It includes no less than:
100 Air Squats
40 Dumbbell Thrusters
20 Dumbbell Complex
70 high knees
Whew. Excuse me while I go re-apply my antiperspirant now. In the meantime, check out this featurette that shows her pushing plates around in the gym …
